Indepentant Music Video Analysis
Lean Wit Me - Juice Wrld
I like this music video as it has a mix of storytelling and visual effects. There are scenes where Juice Wrld is seen dancing around and being his true self, however there are also scenes where he is following the storyline and life of a drug addicted individual. I think it is important to link the storyline of the video to the audio and lyrics spoken about - and as this is a song about drug abuse, this works effectively. For my video, I will take inspiration from this by using a mix of different scenes incluidng a main storyline, with a mix of random scenes in the middle to bring the factor of seriousness to a realistic level.
Rude - Lil Skies
This is a good music video for me to analyse as the effects are very stylised. I like the transitions that are used and the bright colours are very intriguing. I especially enjoy the transition at 2:42 where the camera pans behind the characters head and the blue smoke overtakes the composition. I will try to impliment some of these modern transitions in my video as well. I will do this by researching tutorials on YouTube and practicing them on after effects until I get a result I am proud of.
Diva - TheKidLaroi & Lil Tecca (LL)
In this video, I am a fan of the extreme close up shots with the fisheye lens. This is seen at the start of the video at 0:13. Used in the right way, I believe this shot can portray a ton of emotion through the characters facial features and body language which is why I will take inspiration from this video and use close up effectivley in my video.
Mistakes - TheHxliday (LL)
The use of reflections in this video is very effective when the character is sat in a boat on the water. By putting a reflection in the water as a focal point creates the illusion of there not actually being a focal point which is a good metaphor of not knowing what youre thinking of and your head being messed up and distracted. I will use this metaphor in my video as it is a good metaphor which links to the lyrics of my song.
Love Me More - Trippie Redd
I like the storytelling aspect of this music video as well as the simplicity in the effects and transitions. However one part that stood out to me was the ending where the camera pans past the woman, then back to where the woman should be, but she has dissapeared. I like this as it is a good way to portray somebody leaving your life and it represents heartbreak very well. Going from both together to being on your own. I will try to use a similar practice in my video as my song portrays this cadance too.
Now - Suigeneris ft Lil Skies
In the beginning of this video, there are some very nice drawing animations which I really like and would love to incorporate in my video. I have already messed around with this effect in the past and in the Look Book but now this is my chance to really get into it and make something similar as this. I really like the transitions in this video as well. I like the short clips with lots of cuts. They have cut out the character and animated him around the scene to create a transition which I have tried in my spare time but this project is a perfect chance to practice this method.
