Rationale

What progress have you made on the course? Think back to last September: which projects have you enjoyed most? What have been your strengths? What areas do you feel less confident in?

During the course, I have improved my video editing and Photoshop skillset. By constantly using the software’s, I have managed to become more confident using effects and stylisations that I wasn’t confident with before. I enjoyed the magazine project most as it gave me a lot of freedom to be very creative. And due to the time period we started the project, the weather was good, and going out to take photographs and do location recces was enjoyable. My strengths are in Photoshop and After Effects as I have been using these software’s for a long while. I feel less confident in Sound & Foley as well as advanced techniques like CGI.

What types of job role are you aiming to specialise in?

As a career, I would like to specialise in an aspect of my strengths which are Photoshop and After Effects. This can lead me on the path of a video editor, producer, storyboard artist, special effects editor, CGI animator, and more along these lines which is what I already have the basics in and what I enjoy.

How can you use the FMP to help develop a specialist project in preparation for this role?

The FMP can be a good base project to show companies and employers what we are capable of. Choosing subjects we are passionate about will tell the employer what we are interested in as well as giving them an idea of our editing style, planning, and how we work to persuade them to hire us.

How can you respond to the theme of 'surfaces' to develop an innovative, original project that shows your creative passion?

By taking the theme and creating something out of the box. Creating something new and never seen before to capture the audience’s attention and show you are innovative and strive for showing your creativity.

After recieving feedback from Joe, I understand that my strengths in the past projects include my "planning, team work, visual planning (storyboards), and editing". For my FMP, my focus will not be solely on these aspects as I am more confident with them. Instead, my focus will revolve around my "use of conventions, audience testing, and explaining how my own ideas have been influenced by researched artists work/existing media products." By focusing on my weaknesses, I will hopefully improve them to the same stage as my strengths so achieve the Distinction grade.
