Audio Advertisement
I have researched the conventions of audio advertisements and have a good understanding of what makes an effective product. I will take these conventions to write an intricate script so that I am able to engage my audience.
-
Loud, Clear and Welcoming Narration
-
Fade in so that the sudden ad doesn't scare the listener
-
Background Sound Effects Match Narration
-
Vocal Effects that Match Topic (reverb)
-
Clearly State Brand Name
-
Clearly State Brand's Slogan
-
30 Second Limit
-
Grip Audience in first unskippable 5 seconds
-
Short and Sweet
The instrumental that I plan to use for my advertisement is linked here :
I have chosen this instrumental as I strongly believe the cadence is correct for my desired style of advert. I intend to cut up the instrumental and manipulate it to mold to my 30 second time limit. I will do this using FL Studio 12. Alternatively, I would have liked to create my own instrumental to avoid copyright and to ensure that I get the exact sound that I am aiming for. This is something I would enjoy researching further and could be a possible career path for the future.
Here I have screen recorded the process of making this to document the processes and techniques used. As seen in the timelapse, I was forced to adapt my script according to the time restraint. My original plan that was written in the script was too long to fit in my 30 second limit. This is why I decided to remove these lines from the middle section of the advert :
"From reliable sources? From tutorials, to dramas, to having the chance to win free tickets!"
These were the sentences removed from the script because I identified them as the least important. With a longer advert, I would have liked to explained what the brand entails in a manner like this, however, with the restraint, I deemed it that the other spoken words were of greater importance.
In this part of the video, I am seen using an effect called 'Fruity Parametric EQ 2'. This is an effect that I used on my vocal layer to make my microphone sound clearer and more professional. I do this by selecting a hz range with the 1-7 sliders and increasing them. Increasing them allows myself to hear all the imperfections in that kbps range specifically. After I have found a range with many imperfections, I lower it until the microphone sounds more professional. This is called Selective EQ. I use this effect twice. Once in this way. And for the other, I use a 'vocal presence' preset. This preset works every well in bringing the voice out and hiding the muddy background noise.
I used the same effect on the instrumental layer. This was to 'free-up' some space in the 300hz range. This range is where my vocal presence is the highest. By lowering this slider on the instrumental, it allows my voice to be clearer and not lost in the backing track. My voice will instead, be in the foreground.
Another effect that I used is 'Fruity Compression'. This makes my voice louder and also makes sure every word is at the same volume. This is very helpful to ensure that if I was a slightly different distance from the microphone when recording, that the volume of my words will stay the same.
