Production

Following my storyboard, I started with the decision of the song. Doing this was quite difficult because I wasnt sure on the cadance I was aiming for. I tried many songs including: "Wheres the blow?" By Ski Mask, "When the Snakes Start To Sing" by Bring Me The Horizon - however, I finally settled with "A Dream I Cant Remember" by Quadeca. I chose this song as I did not want to create a normal, up-beat LookBook. The slow cadance of this track helped create a very dramatic tone in my Look Book which is effective in grabbing the attention to teenagers who want to be unique.

Following the first panel, to introduce the LookBook, I wanted my name showcased with a glitch effect that I learnt how to do prior to joining the course. The tutorial that I followed to learn this technique is shown at the top of this text. It uses adjustment layers, displacement maps and channel effects to create a glitch effect that works very well with the interfered sound within the start of the song.

Next in my storyboard, I wanted to achieve a teleportation-like effect. I done this by simply creating the same shot twice in two different locations. By slowing down the clips to the same amount and syncing up the speed of me walking and putting my hood up, I managed to pull this off quite well. As the song uses very obvious kicks and snares in the song, instead of using transitions, I done it to every hit instead.

After this, I decided to take a shot of my designer belt. As this is a fashion based/inspired LookBook, I thought this would fit in very well. The camera would start at the bottom of the belt, and pan upwards, with screen flashes and pumps syncing with the song,

For this shot, I wanted to again impliment the teleporting effect. However this time, I took the same shot twice, in the same location. Once with nothing happening, and another with me walking through the frame. Doing this creates an effect as if I am teleporting away from the shot, and back into it. Doing this shows emphasis on the model as the watcher will focus on what is moving and what is different or inconsistant.

After this, I took inspiration from another class-mate by taking a low angle shot showcasing a muddy puddle going along double yellow lines. Doing this creates a nice mirror reflection in the puddle as well as shows a nice example of leading line with the yellow lines. I then continued to walk through the puddle to keep emphasis on my shoes and the fashion aspect of the LookBook. Before I walked through the puddle, I decided to keep a theme with the glitched text by writing the song lyrics in the dead space where nothing really happens. Doing this keeps the watcher focused by adding something new and somewhat unexpected.

For this next panel, I went against my inital planning. Instead of starting low and panning up, I done the opposite. I done this to make the next transition work better and it just made sense to do it this way. With this part of the video, I took time to mess around with the speed/duration effect. Starting the clip slow, and at the end, making it go to the floor very fast. As the ground was already black, it was easy to fade to black so that I could continute with the next element which is not actually planned.

Again I wanted to put the glitched text to emphasise the lyric "but i hope they dont forget me". I done this as there was deadspace that needing filling and also because I feel like that is a lyric that many teenagers could relate too.

For the next few panels, I went off-track. I believe if I took more time to film for myself, instead of others, I wouldve been able to keep on track much more. The next scene is of the shoes in B-roll. Emphasising items of clothing was important for me in my LookBook to make sure the main focus was on fashion. I experemented with drawing an animated outline around the shoe, however I hated how that looked. Here is how it came out:

This part of the LookBook caused me the most trouble as I was not sure how to mask. I had done this effect before where you mask and track the back of a persons legs so when they walk past frame, the background behind them dissapears however I had forgotten how to do it. After using the roto brush and pen tool, I manged to track and animate a mask behind my legs, revealing the next scene. This doesnt only showcase the bottoms I was wearing but also shows modern editing which is very appreciated in LookBooks - shown in my research and questionaire.

This is another discarded panel in my LookBook. I recorded and edited this in, however I felt that it was immature and didnt fit the cadance of the LookBook. Instead I filled that space with a cinematic of myself sat on a frame, using my phone.

For this scene, I duplicated, cropped and mirrored the shot to make there be 2 of myself. So it wasnt so sudden, I created a flashing effect that went along, in sync with the music. My inital idea was to mask my entire body out and do the glitch effect on the model the same way I glitched the text, however I did not have time to mask around my body as that is a very long and tedious task.

I was initally very exited to try this idea. I wanted to put the camera on a tripod and record the same scene multiple times, with the model standing in different points in the shot. I can then continue to mask out around the people to make it look like there was five persons in the frame. This worked well and how I expected but did not make it into the final LookBook. This is because I felt that it did not fit in well with the theme or song unfortunately. But it was still a cool idea to try out.

Improvements

To improve my final LookBook, I would start by planning my transitions in advance. Doing this will allow me to add camera shake and pans while recording that will benefit the overall look of the video and will mean the editing process will go smoothly and faster as it would already be planned.

Another thing I would change would be by putting more focus on my own work, rather than helping others. I believe if I took more time to myself, that I couldve followed my storyboard closer, recorded more effective shots, and I wouldve came out with a much better result.
